Aurora Artistry was created in partnership with QAGOMA, with a focus on their exhibition ‘Olafur Eliasson: Presence’ (Dec 2025 – Jul 2026). Eliasson is an Icelandic-Danish artist known for his large-scale installation pieces, with a philosophy of making his art an experience for his audience – principles that Aurora Artistry took into it’s design.

Designed for showcase within QAGOMA itself, Aurora Artistry is designed for large, touchscreen displays similar to those featured in The Cube at QUT, with museum patrons able to pick up and play for short periods of time with minimal tutorialisation. Once they have created their masterpiece, gallery patrons can take their works home with them by viewing them on the Galactic Gallery – a collaborative website filled with everyone’s masterpieces. Focused on curating a wondrous and peaceful sensory experience that encouraged creative freedom within gallery patrons, Aurora Artistry was successfully showcased at multiple exhibitions, including Griffith's Experimental Game Design Conference (2025).

Production Skills

  • Sprint planning and road mapping – Splitting development into Prototyping, Development, Playtesting & Refining, and Polishing sprints and planning tasks and milestones accordingly

  • Market Research – Conducted extensive background research in pre-production phases relating to:

    • Olafur Eliasson’s design philosophy and intended experience in his works – prompting our design pillar of creting a “Wow” followed by an “a-ha” moment in our audience (Abstract: The Art of Design, S2E1, 2017)

    • Museum patrons, and curating experiences for a very large audience, using Falk's model of the 5 categories of museum-type visitors (Falk, 2010; For Art’s Sake, 2021)

  • Stakeholder communication – Delivering the initial concept pitch, which received consistently positive feedback from clients, teaching team and peers.

  • Facilitating various Rituals with the team, including regular Scrums and Sprint Reviews.

  • Backlog management and analysis – producing key artefacts such as Burndown Charts to visualise progress and data for the team.

Design Skills

  • Player experience design - ensuring the experience meets the defined player experience goals of Wonder, Peace and Freedom. Completed extensive playtesting and analysis to assess player experience, and what elements of the product helped achieve this, and what elements hindered it.

  • Tutorial Design – Designed the foundations of the tutorial according to key points of confusion discovered in playtesting. The tutorial was then implemented by our programmer under direction.

Web Development Skills

  • Designing the Galactic Gallery Webpage’s layout and key functionality

  • Using HTML, CSS and JS to craft the website from scratch

  • Assisted in integrating the designed website with back-end networking completed by our programmer
